It’s hard for people to sit down, relax, breathe, and just be in the moment. Our lives are rushing around us and many of us don’t want to admit… we actually don’t want to acknowledge our thoughts, let them pass and just breathe as we’re often taught.
It’s challenging.
Thoughts race. What else can I be doing right now? Just one example of the annoying alarms going off in your already overactive and overstimulated mind.
How can you change that?
What if you looked at meditation differently?!
For those who aren’t familiar with meditation, the typical advice is to listen to your breath and let your thoughts pass.
That’s easier said than done.
If you look at meditation a little differently, this seemingly easy (yet surprisingly difficult task) may not be so… frustrating.
Let’s look at prayer. We all know what that is. Prayer is sending messages out; gratitude, asking for things, speaking to Divine/God/Universe, laying down your sorrows or your celebrations, and the list of messages goes on.
Now, let’s look at meditation. Can you look at meditation as – I am listening. Not focusing on breath, not letting thoughts pass, just listening.
Maybe God/Universe/Divine has something to say to you? But, how are you to hear if you are thinking incessant thoughts?
Exactly.
Telling yourself, “I am listening.” Will actually calm your mind and give you a different perspective of how you view the practice of meditation.
My intention is to not change a practice you may already enjoy. My intention is only to strengthen your practice, should you need it.
Meditation has been pivotal in my journey to healing the mind, body, and spirit. It’s a growing practice that keeps giving, giving, and giving.
I hope you find it and it finds you.
