Resolutions, intentions, and goals are wonderful to dream up, but powerful when you create a vision board!

Ritualize a vision board project each New Year or even periodically throughout the year as you manifest your dreams…

I love making vision boards any time of year, but January is especially a great time when new year goals are still fresh in mind.

Vision boards are an amazing tool to help you visualize what you want for yourself. Athletes have long practiced the art of visualization to improve performance and studies show it to be quite effective. Why not adopt this practice by creating your own personalized vision board?

So what exactly is a vision board? Well to put it plainly, it’s a board you attach images and words to of anything you want to attract into your life. Maybe you want to be healthier, get involved in charity or take a trip to the Seychelles. The possibilities are endless when dreaming up your desires and aspirations. Whether big or small, material or non-material, they all have a place on your vision board!

Creating a vision board is even fun to make. Sorting through images in magazines, clipping words that empower you and the overall creative process are all enjoyable endeavors. There is no wrong way to do a vision board, so start saving those images! I have been doing vision boards for years and each rendition is very different and unique from vision boards past.

So where do you get your materials? I love going to a local craft store just to cruise the aisles, which is a great place to buy poster boards, glue, scissors and whatever else you may need. Be sure to collect an assortment of magazines (travel, home, garden, cuisine, and lifestyle) so you have a myriad of images to choose from. If you can’t find a specific word or phrase you are looking for, just cut out individual letters to create it.

Vision Board Cut Outs

You may not have any set dreams or goals in mind for your vision board. Need guidance? Spend some time looking through magazines for images or words that attract you. Maybe pictures of the beach or a house on a hill? Chances are if the image attracts you, you wouldn’t mind having that experience or feeling in real life. Try not to limit yourself with your dreams, which is a great mental practice in itself.

I have crafted vision boards solo and have also hosted “vision board parties”. Both are incredibly fun and very different experiences. Maybe you want to keep your visions sacred and personal. Or maybe it’s more fun to collaborate with your friends and “show and tell” your creations.

Once crafted, vision boards can be kept private or out for everyone to see, it’s totally up to you. I find it particularly powerful to place your vision board somewhere you can see every single day. It is important to look at your vision board daily, so you can practice visualizing (which serves as a constant reminder of your goals and dreams). I like to keep mine on my dresser in front of my bed. That way, it’s there for me to look at first thing in the morning and right before I go to sleep at night. I’ve even heard of people taping it to their ceiling so they can gaze at it while laying in bed. I would love that if I could keep it taped in place. My board was too heavy (I was dreaming big, as usual) and it ended up falling on me. I’m not looking for my visions to startle me. So the vision board is back to the dresser, far from falling on my head. 🙂

With a few vision board notches on my belt, I can also say I prefer to attach two poster boards together to make one large masterpiece! With one long piece of sturdy tape on the back, I link the two boards so they ultimately can sit upright independently (like an open book). One gigantic poster board gives you more space, which I love. The more I have created vision boards the more space I seem to crave. It’s fun to go crazy and be limitless!

I must say I have had much success with my vision boards of past! Whether it be a vacation I’ve fantasized about, a job I really wanted or a car I coveted, vision boards have helped me to focus on what I really really wanted. I also keep my old vision boards to see what has manifested over the years. It is such a trip!

I highly recommend setting some time aside to have a little fun with your dreams. Vision boards are fun, positive, and highly enjoyable to make by yourself or with a group. Enjoy the creative process!
